Also, did ya know Producer Ray Ellis once said they "accidentally" adjusted the speed at 1/4 pitch faster in the studio for these last recordings of Billie's, perhaps as a way to speed up the pace. Whether it was intentional will never be known. Upon listening, Lady does sound somewhat out of /5(13).

7. Well, I've come to agree with my late father's assessment of Billie Holiday, "Probably the greatest jazz singer ever--maybe one of the best singers, period." As my review title suggests, I don't think most people can appreciate Billie Holiday until they have been through the emotional wringer--maybe a few times or more/5().

8. While this Classics disc of Billie Holiday's sides beats out Columbia's Quintessential titles for sound quality, it does pale a bit as far as top-notch material goes. That said, the 24 tracks here still boast fine performances, like "Trav'lin' All Alone," "You Go to My Head," and "I Can't Get Started.".
